Kate is our case study character and her day of disasters will illustrate how the right insurance cover is essential to your business. Kate, fortunately, does not exist. Her experiences are a compilation of the typical claims that we receive from owners of hairdressing salons and beauty salons.
On her way to her salon, Catastrophe Kate stops for coffee and a box of hair products is stolen from her locked car. She arrives at work to discover she has been burgled and has lost a cash register, some computer equipment and stock.
Luckily, Kate is covered for both the robbery from her car and for the burglary at the salon under her Burglary and Transit cover option. Later that morning, Kate misreads instructions and burns a client's skin. The client threatens to sue but luckily Kate is covered for treatment risk under her Broadform Liability (Personal Injury).
At lunchtime, a runaway supermarket trolley shatters the glass of Kate's shopfront, destroying the illuminated advertising sign. Fortunately, Kate is covered under her Glass cover option for the broken glass plus the sign writing on the windows, and the advertising sign.
A short time later, a power surge destroys a number of computers, printers, a fax and a laptop, wiping out critical business information. Kate is covered for the damage plus the loss of data, under her Electronic Equipment cover option.
As the day wears on, temperatures soar and the air-conditioners give up the uneven battle. Kate is covered for this under her Machinery cover option. Leaving the salon, Kate discovers graffiti across her walls. Luckily she is covered for malicious damage under her Fire and Other Defined Events cover option.
That night, the salon catches fire. Kate's stock, her computers, printers, cash register and the furniture and flooring are destroyed. Thanks to the same Fire and Other Defined Events cover option Kate is covered for the damage.
Kate's day induces severe hypertension which eventually renders her incapable of working but luckily her livelihood is protected by her Personal Accident and Illness cover option which allows her to employ someone to fill in for her until she is better.
The above scenarios sketch the broad outlines of some of the cover options suitable to your business. For further details on the cover, additional benefits and exclusions for each cover option, as well as further cover options, please consult the Product Disclosure Statement or call us on 132 818.
