SGIO launches 2009 Community Grants program
05/03/2009
SGIO is encouraging Western Australians wanting to do more for their local community to participate in its 2009 Community Grants program, which launches this week.
SGIO spokesperson Rob Cory said that as a major WA insurer, SGIO was passionate about safeguarding WA’s unique way of life through helping to develop more sustainable communities.
“We believe the journey to truly sustainable communities begins in our homes and local neighbourhoods, right across Western Australia” he said.
SGIO research conducted to coincide with the launch of the 2009 Community Grants program has revealed that three out of five Western Australians wish they could do more for local community groups and charities – with time the biggest constraint*.
“The research suggests that many people are simply too busy to be able to dedicate as much time to the community as they would like” Mr Cory said.
“Through the Community Grants program we are offering Western Australians the ability to do this, without having to sacrifice much of their time or spend a cent.”
Under the program, applications can be made online for a grant of up to $5,000 (including GST) if the community group’s work falls into the areas of crime prevention, road safety, emergency readiness and response, or the environment.
“The Community Grants program provides a great opportunity for our organisation and Western Australians to work together to build more sustainable communities” said Mr Cory.
“So far we’ve seen some great results from the program. Awareness and education, particularly in the areas of road and home safety is increasing, which is great news for our customers, our business and the wider WA community.”
Applications for an SGIO Community Grant can only be lodged online at www.sgio.com.au/grants prior to March 31 2009.
